Manchester United told of Casemiro influence during suspension as Steven Gerrard details Harry Kane transfer mindset

Here are your Monday morning Manchester United headlines.

Casemiro influence

Former Manchester United striker and BBC Sport pundit Dion Dublin believes that Casemiro will still play a big role in the Reds' dressing room despite his current suspension.

The Brazilian was sent off in the draw with Southampton for a foul on Carlos Alcaraz. Due to it being his second red card of the season, Casemiro was suspended for four matches, the first of which he served against Fulham in the FA Cup pre-international break.

Despite the 31-year-old missing from the pitch, Dublin believes that United's midfielders will still be calling on the ex-Real Madrid man for guidance in the Premier League fixtures to come. He told United's official website: "It's going to be difficult but I just think the lads know how important these games are.

"Whoever takes his position, I am sure Casemiro will be chatting to him about what he expects as well because he has done it and won everything. I know the players who play in Casemiro's position - Fred has been a Brazil international for years, Scott McTominay has been a Scotland international for years, but I am still sure they will be having a word with Casemiro."

Gerrard on Kane

Steven Gerrard has compared questions he asked himself about his future to those likely going through Harry Kane's mind amid interest from Manchester United.

Kane took his England goalscoring tally to 55 on Sunday evening, netting the opener in a 2-0 win over Ukraine at Wembley. The 29-year-old became his country's all-time leading scorer against Italy on Thursday, less than two months after doing to same at club level for Tottenham.

However a failure to bring any major trophies to North London has forced the striker to consider his future, and United hope they can convince him Old Trafford is the place to win silverware. Erik ten Hag will prioritise a world-class goalscorer this summer as he builds a team fit to challenge for Premier League and European titles.

“Listen, I don’t want to open a can of worms, he’s got a big decision to make career-wise," Gerrard told Channel 4 after England beat Ukraine 2-0 on Sunday. "I’ve been there myself where you’re thinking is my team good enough to get me the medals? Am I going to get out of my career what I want to get?"
