Manchester United told 'everyone enjoys them having a bad time'

There's no doubting that it's been a rough 10 years for Manchester United. Ever since the great Sir Alex Ferguson left the club, the Reds have struggled to compete with the teams at the top of the table, and now find themselves in need of rebuilding after a severely disappointing season.

A number of managers have come and gone, but now United will hope that Erik ten Hag is the man to lead them back to where they feel they should be.

Work is already underway, with former Spurs, Inter and Brentford attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen likely to join in the coming days, and Ten Hag will also hope to bring in another midfielder alongside him in Frenkie de Jong.

United’s pursuit of the midfielder has been going on for much of the summer, with Erik ten Hag having identified him as an ideal target as he begins his rebuild. But as of now, no deal is in place with Barcelona reportedly looking to keep hold of the influential midfielder. But United seemingly remain hopeful of the move going through.

However, former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has stated that whilst he's a fan of De Jong, he won't be enough for United to compete this season. The former Villa striker turned pundit also took a swipe at the club, stating that everyone is enjoying seeing them 'having a bad time'.

"Manchester United for me are in big trouble and Frenkie de Jong is only the start. That’s like 10% of the problem sorted, they’ve got so much work to do.

"Ten Hag is under pressure straight away. Everyone is going to be after them, everyone will be criticising Ten Hag so he has to really start the first five or six games with a good tally of points because Manchester United are a team everyone is enjoying having a bad time."

He added: “We could come to a situation where, the norm is Manchester United not playing Champions League football, unless they win the Europa League because they just don’t look anywhere near, quality-wise, as close as Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and even Spurs now. Spurs are bringing in good players, Arsenal are coming a bit closer to top four as well."
