Manchester United to play pre-season friendly at the Aviva Stadium this Summer

Manchester United are set to play a preseason friendly at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin this Summer.

The notion of Manchester United playing in Dublin has been mooted for some time and there were suggestions that United were being lined up to play a League of Ireland XI last year.

Those plans never came to fruition, but The 42 reports that United are due to play a friendly at Lansdowne Road this August.

The report suggests the fixture, which would be one of United's last game before the new Premier League season kicks off, could be announced as early as next week.

Erik Ten Hag's side are coming off the back of a successful season which saw the Red Devils finish third in the table and win the Carabao Cup.

They crashed out of the Europa League at the quarter-final stage before being narrowly defeated by Manchester City in last weekend's FA Cup final.

Should United come to Dublin, it would be their third trip to Lansdowne Road since the stadium was redeveloped in 2010.

Manchester United were in fact the first side to play in a football match at the new stadium when they beat a League of Ireland XI 7-1 in 2010.
