Manchester United are reportedly still monitoring the progress of Ajax central defender Jurrien Timber with a view to potentially submitting a bid for him.
United were linked with a move for Timber in the summer as Erik ten Hag aimed to strengthen the Reds' defence. However, the move fell through as it was reported that the 21-year-old was concerned that he would lose his place at the World Cup if he made the switch and his game time drastically decreased.
Ten Hag instead opted to target Lisandro Martinez who made the move to Manchester instead. The central defender soon became a fan favourite at Old Trafford and was named MEN Sport's United Player of the Year by readers.

According to The Sun, United have instructed their scouts to watch several players including Timber as they aim to create a more youthful spine in their team. Elsewhere, according to journalist Jorge Nicola, Ten Hag in particular blocked a loan move which would have seen Facundo Pellistri leave Old Trafford.
Pellistri finally made his debut for United against Charlton Athletic, as a substitute, in the Reds' 3-0 victory in the Carabao Cup. The 21-year-old joined United in 2020 from Penarol and has had two loan spells at Alaves since.
Nicola reports that both Botafogo and Flamengo were interested in a move for Pellistri who featured at last year's World Cup in Qatar. However, Ten Hag reportedly wanted to see Pellistri earn his shot with the Reds and chose to block the approaches from the South American giants.
The winger's agent previously went on record to state that the Uruguayan would use the World Cup as a launch pad for a move away from United. Watford boss Slaven Bilic confirmed this week that he wished to make a move for Pellistri in January.
