Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho sent stark warning over contract talks

Alejandro Garnacho has been advised to keep his feet on the ground should the Argentina sensation put pen-to-paper on a bumper new contract at Old Trafford.

Garnacho, 18, continues to see his stock rise during a breakthrough season for Manchester United in which he has emerged as part of their first-team plans. He netted vital goals against Real Sociedad and Fulham as United look to the future with Cristiano Ronaldo no longer at the club.

Manchester Evening News understands contract talks are progressing with Garnacho and his representatives - as reports from elsewhere suggest that it could be worth £50,000-a-week for the forward. He currently earns £5,000, as agreed in his first professional contract.

Garnacho, who touched down in the UK from Atletico Madrid in 2020 - costing £420,000 for the Academy system - is currently tied down until 2024 and the club do hold a one-year option on him. However, in order to reflect his rise this season, United are keen to reward the Madrid-born Argentina hotshot.

David James was pressed on the Garnacho situation as part of a promotion for GGRecon. He said: "If he was going to be corrupted [by money] then £5,000-a-week would have already corrupted him.

"I hope he has a lot of good people around him advising him on what to do with that extra £45,000. Providing that he does have the right people advising him, that allows him to concentrate on his football.

"I don't know the man at all, but if he is money driven, £50,000-a-week may mean that he'll soon want £100,000-a-week, which in that case will drive him on to play even better."
