Manchester United stance on Alejandro Garnacho future amid Real Madrid links

Manchester United remain relaxed over Alejandro Garnacho's future amid fresh reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

The 18-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough season in the United first-team, which has led to reported interest from the La Liga giants in his signature.

Garnacho featured for United in both of their friendly fixtures against Spanish opposition last week and was asked about a move to Madrid when he walked through the mixed zone after the 1-0 defeat to Betis. David de Gea intervened and quickly told reporters: "We won't let him leave," amid the continued interest in his future.

United share that sentiment, as they remain confident of reaching an agreement with Garnacho on a contract extension, though there is no rush to do so.

The Argentine forward only signed his first professional contract when he turned 17 last July, penning a deal until 2024 with the option of an additional year at the club's discretion.

Sources say United are comfortable with Garnacho's current contract situation due to the length of his existing deal, but are keen to reward him for his progress.

Garnacho's current deal also includes a number of performance-based triggers that result in a permanent wage increase once activated. He has already triggered a number of them since he signed the deal last year, meaning he is earning more money now than he did when he signed the original deal.

The teenager was subject to numerous loan offers in the summer window, with the most concrete proposals coming from Spain, but it was decided he would remain at United to continue his development.

Garnacho has netted two goals and notched two assists in eight senior appearances so far this season, and is set to play a prominent role when competitive action resumes next week.
