Tottenham’s highly-rated winger Tynan Thompson has joined Manchester United in a deal worth up to £8m.

Spurs academy graduate Thompson scored seven goals in the Uefa Youth League last season and frequently starred at left wing for the under-21s.

However, 18-year-old Thompson was understood to have started to grow frustrated at a lack of first-team chances at Tottenham, despite being named on the bench three times in the 2025-26 campaign and has completed a transfer to United, subject to registration.

Personal family circumstances have also been cited as a reason behind the departure, with a desire expressed by Thompson’s family to relocate to the Manchester area.

Thompson, who had to handle the unexpected death of his father last November, has joined United for an initial £4m, with a further £4m included in add-ons.

A sell-on clause in the region of 15 to 20 per cent and a matching rights condition, which may allow Tottenham to bring Thompson back to the club in the future, has also been included in the deal.

“Everyone at United would like to welcome Tynan to the club and wish him the very best of luck for the future,” a club statement read.
