Manchester United have announced the signing of Andre Onana from Inter Milan.
The goalkeeper joins on a five-year contract that includes the option for a further 12 months after the clubs reached an agreement on a £47million fee, of which £5m will be made up by performance-related bonuses.
“To join Manchester United is an incredible honour and I have worked hard all my life to get to this moment, overcoming many obstacles along the way,” Onana told United’s official website having passed a medical and gone to join the club on their pre-season tour of the United States.
“Walking out at Old Trafford to defend our goal and contribute to the team will be another amazing experience. This is the start of a new journey for me, with new teammates, and new ambitions to fight for.

“Manchester United has a long history of incredible goalkeepers, and I will now give everything to create my own legacy in the coming years. I am excited by the opportunity to work again with Erik ten Hag, and I can’t wait to play my part in the success I know he is determined to deliver at this great football club.”
Onana is United’s second high-profile signing of the summer so far after England midfielder Mason Mount’s arrival from Chelsea for £60m last month.
It follows David de Gea’s contract expiring at Old Trafford, drawing to a close the Spanish ‘keeper’s 12-year career in Manchester.

Erik ten Hag worked with Cameroon international Onana at Ajax before both men departed Amsterdam last summer, with the player going on to reach the Champions League final in his one season at Inter.
Together, they won a trio of Eredivisie titles as well as two Dutch Cups. United are now expected to turn their attention to signing a new striker ahead of the new season amid firm interest in Atalanta star Rasmus Hojlund.
United’s football director John Murtough added: “Andre was our top choice to become the new goalkeeper for Manchester United, with exactly the right profile of technical attributes and personality.
“Having achieved success throughout his career, we know that Andre will further add to the winning mentality we are building within our squad.
“He is already one of the world’s best goalkeepers and at the age of 27 we firmly believe that he can develop even further over the coming years.”
