Manchester United sent Liverpool warning as depth of problems laid bare

Tony Cascarino believes Manchester United are facing "20 to 30" problems that must be fixed to see improvements made.

Old habits died hard on Saturday as the Reds squandered a lead with Southampton the latest to take points off United from winning positions.

With Ralf Rangnick set to depart his role in the summer, the former striker believes the club are still drifting on their decline.

"I'd like to think they know exactly what they need to do regardless of the scenario now. That club is just drifting, they have got so many decisions to make, Manchester United is now the most complex club in the Premier League, for me," he told talkSPORT.

"There's so many challenges of what they need to, it's not from the boardroom it filters all the way down to the director of football, the manager - whoever gets the job - the recruitment team needs to be looked and why certain things..."

He added: "I said earlier, I found it negligent for that deal of Donny van de Beek to go to Everton, that's a really strange deal. Fair play to Everton, Frank Lampard, whoever's involved, that is a weird deal.

"Why he should be left and not changed at all, coming on as a sub all the time and hardly getting a chance to shine in Man United colours is a weird one.

"I think there's many issues across the board, I think it's the manager, certain people have been given roles, they really need to think about their staff, Mickey Phelan has been there a long time, Darren Fletcher has been given a new role, they need to have a real think about how they run this club.

"Liverpool and Man United have had loads of connections over the years, there are parallels between the two clubs, Liverpool were this, after the 90s and Man United started to dominate, Liverpool were through a malaise of terrible times and lots went wrong at that football club, not just on the field, way and beyond.

"That's a complete reversal, Manchester United have got all the challenges ahead of them, it's not one thing it's probably 20-30 things that they need to sort out and employ the right people, that's easier said than done."
