Manchester United shelved plans to send Shola Shoretire out on loan in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Shoretire, 18, had originally been earmarked for a temporary exit this season but those plans were scrapped after Erik ten Hag indicated he wanted to keep the forward around for the time being.
The Manchester Evening News understands that the teenager received interest from a number of Championship clubs this summer, but the decision was taken to oversee his development at United.

It is understood Shoretire will feature for the U21s while continuing to train with the senior side, and he could feature in the Europa League squad this season, before the club re-evaluate his situation ahead of the January transfer window.
He, along with fellow teenager Alvaro Fernandez, missed out on a place in the pre-season tour squad this summer in anticipation of loan exits from the club. The Spanish left-back joined Preston, but the Newcastle-born forward did not leave.
Shoretire made history when he broke Norman Whiteside's record to become the youngest player to represent United in European competition a year ago, doing so at the age of 17 years and 23 days when he came on in the second-half of a goalless draw with Real Sociedad.
The United youngster has made five appearances in total for the first team, with the last of those coming on the final day of last season in defeat to Crystal Palace.
