Manchester United's shares see biggest single day rise for nine years after takeover talk

Shares in Manchester United soared in their biggest rise in a single day for nine years.

It is unclear what exactly prompted the value of shares in United to rise by almost 12% on Wednesday.

However just a day earlier, Michael Knighton, who nearly bought United in 1989, announced his intention to lodge an offer to buy the club with the financial backing of a consortium.
