Manchester United rocked by Marcus Rashford injury concern as Newcastle United get ready for Wembley

Newcastle United's Carabao Cup final opponents Manchester United are dealing with an injury scare involving Marcus Rashford.

The England striker limped off in the 88th minute of Man United's thrilling 2-1 win over Barcelona and was replaced by Scott McTominay at Old Trafford. Rashford had gone into the game with six goals in his last six matches but that run came to an end last night in the Europa League.

It appears that Rashford's withdrawal was merely a precaution but nevertheless it is hardly a great start to Man United's preparations for the big day.

Rashford took to Instagram after the game and posted a bandaged head emjoi to suggest he was hurt. But whether that turns out to be some early mind games going into Sunday's Wembley showpiece remains to be seen.

One thing is for certain, Man United players will effectively have one full session to prepare for the final clash in the capital and it is likely that Rashford will require treatment today.

It is understood that Rashford has just rocked his ankle and could still be available for the final but it is hardly ideal preparation for a major occasion. After the game Erik ten Hag said: "From now on, our focus is on that game. It doesn't matter to me about the draw. I focus on Newcastle United, it is the only thing that counts."

Eddie Howe and his players will hold training again at Benton before setting off on Saturday for Wembley. Joe Willock remains the big concern for the Magpies.
