Manchester United recently rejected an approach from Altetico Madrid for Victor Lindelof, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Diego Simeone's side are looking to strengthen their squad at centre-back, with Leicester City's Caglar Soyuncu top of the Spanish side's list. Among other targets was Swedish defender Lindelof, although an initial approach was knocked back as Erik ten Hag is said to be keen on keeping his man.
Lindelof has started just four Premier League games so far this season, with Ten Hag's decision to start Luke Shaw at centre-back stirring speculation that both he and Harry Maguire could head for the exit door.

Romano had recently said on the United Stand that 'a club made an approach for Victor Lindelof, but Ten Hag turned it down as he wants to keep him.' He has since confirmed that the club in question was Atletico.
Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be given some time to prove himself at United after a recent resurgence in form, according to Sky Sports' Kaveh Solhekol.
The removal of Diogo Dalot - albeit precautionary - inside the first half of Tuesday's 3-0 Carabao Cup win against Charlton saw Wan-Bissaka introduced, and his form in recent weeks has led to calls for him to be given another chance.
Several Premier League sides were interested in signing the previously out-of-favour full-back, including West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Wolves.
But with United likely to focus their efforts elsewhere in terms of incomings through January, the right-back could be given the remainder of the season to prove himself.
