Barcelona share update on De Jong pursuit
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has offered up a telling admission that should have implications for Manchester United and their pursuit for Frenkie de Jong this summer transfer window.
Reports in recent days have suggested that the midfielder is closing in on a reunion with his former Ajax manager Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford. Manchester Evening News has already reported that De Jong has been earmarked as a priority target for his impending rebuild.
That pursuit been helped by ongoing financial problems at the Nou Camp. Barcelona are understood to be around €1billion (£850m) in debt and may have to offload players in order to comply with La Liga spending rules.

Agent reacts to Garner transfer speculation
James Garner's agent has provided a tongue-in-cheek response to ongoing transfer speculation surrounding the United midfielder. Garner shone on loan with Nottingham Forest last season as they won promotion back into the Premier League after 23 years away in the doldrums.
Garner, 21, was not even born when Forest were last in the top-flight. However, the England U21 midfielder was a top performer for Steve Cooper's side throughout the regular season and in the Championship play-offs.
United manager Ten Hag will take a look at Garner before making a decision on his immediate future, but that has not stopped the player from being linked with summer moves elsewhere as Everton, Forest and Leeds continue to monitor his situation.
