Manchester United have one more outing before heading into the Christmas break as they host Sheffield United in their final Continental Cup fixture.
Despite a win against Everton last time out, United bow out of the competition as Aston Villa qualified for the knockout rounds as group leaders.
The visitors have had a difficult run to their campaign and also bow out of the cup run with their winless streak. They compete in the Championship and occupy 10th in the second tier of women’s football with seven points from nine games.
Although their season started strong with a 2-0 win over Durham and an 8-0 dominance over Coventry, they now are winless in nine games, in all competitions.
The hosts also didn’t bring their top performances to the league cup fixtures and so suffered two draws and only one win but have generated success in the Women's Super League.
They finished 2022 in third place in the table in the top flight of women’s football with 22 points from nine games, losing only one fixture, against league leaders Chelsea, but have pulled important results from the Emirates and Etihad winning 3-2 and drawing 1-1 against top teams respectively so will go into this fixture confident.
The two teams have gone head to head twice before, United came out victorious both times with 3-0 and 4-0 wins, Manager Marc Skinner will want to maintain his unbeaten record against the Blades while also finishing the year on a high.
The sub-zero temperatures are predicted to rise on Sunday for the game at Leigh Sports Village that kicks off at noon.
