David de Gea
Pinged pass almost played Jadon Sancho in but another played United into trouble. Ivan Toney almost scored from a De Gea goal kick but he vitally denied Kevin Schade. 6
Diogo Dalot
Had an iffy start but his late emergence on the right led to United's first good opening. United could have maximised his forward runs more. 6
Raphael Varane
Had little hassle from Ivan Toney in a tame first half from Brentford but was slow to react when Schade nipped in to get the ball for his one-on-one. 6

Lisandro Martinez
Exerted his authority impressively in defence and attack that helped United transition into the final third. United's best player again. 8
Luke Shaw
Started decently but came off in the 37th minute to be replaced by Tyrell Malacia. 6
Scott McTominay
Caught a half-volley sweetly that whistled just over but booked for a late tackle. Made two fine interventions in the space of a minute. 6
Marcel Sabitzer
Switched roles with McTominay and playing higher up was vindicated with his cushioned knockdown for Marcus Rashford to score. 7
Antony
United's most creative player again, his lofted pass for Sabitzer unlocked Brentford and he had a few attempts at goal. Faded in the second. 6
Bruno Fernandes
Not particularly creative but supplemented the attack tidily and his tirelessness was useful. Deservedly booked. 6
Jadon Sancho
A more assured performance amid uncertainty over his future but did not create or have a standout opportunity until he came off in the 70th minute. 6
Marcus Rashford
Clinically executed his chance from Sabitzer's header to score his 28th goal of the season. Struggled for another clear opportunity. 7
Subs
Tyrell Malacia
Came on unexpectedly early for Shaw and performed respectably. 6
Fred
His energetic press was a useful counter to Brentford's lively substitutes but he blazed over from Rashford's pull-back. 6
Anthony Martial
Offered little during his 20 minutes. 5
Victor Lindelof
Lost first aerial duel. 5
Manager
One change raised eyebrows but switching McTominay and Sabitzer worked and United were more fluid without Wout Weghorst starting. 6
