Manchester United player ratings vs West Ham: De Gea excellent and Martinez great

David de Gea

Had a quiet first-half, with Jarrod Bowen's goalbound shot inconsequential as it was from an offside position but he pulled off a great save from Kurt Zouma in the 83rd minute. 9

Diogo Dalot

Moved infield regularly to supplement midfield and regularly showed adventure but was also the most dependable defender, intervening on key occasions. 8

Harry Maguire

Off the pace in the first-half and his distribution was largely risk-aversive. Settled for defend-at-all-cost clearances as United held on. 6

Lisandro Martinez

Had little grief from Gianluca Scamacca, other than a sore head from his high challenge. Another solid performance. 8

Luke Shaw

Foraged forward regularly but his delivery on the overlap remains reliably unreliable and West Ham targeted his side as they sought an equaliser. 6

Casemiro

Started his eighth successive game and not as influential as in previous weeks in the Premier League and could have come off. 6

Christian Eriksen

Eriksen was always going to be key in a low-scoring fixture in recent years and he worked the breakthrough beautifully to cross for Marcus Rashford. 7

Anthony Elanga

A first start since September 1 at the expense of the injured Antony and Elanga was harmless. Looked like someone without a United goal since February. 4

Bruno Fernandes

Cushioned the ball perfectly for Eriksen to assist Rashford but his regressive week continued and he was often detached from the midfielders and the forwards. 4

Marcus Rashford

Unfortunate an earlier header was straight at Lukasz Fabianski but leapt like Cristiano Ronaldo to put United ahead. 7

Cristiano Ronaldo

Involved in some decent link-up play in the first-half and got into goalscoring positions in the second but was wasteful. 6

Subs

Scott McTominay

Came on to counter West Ham's more adventurous play. Crossed for Fred to hit the post. 6

Fred

Hit the post with a header. 6

Manager

Maguire and Elanga's selections were enforced and United were always going to have to be patient. The choice of McTominay as a first change was cagey. 6
