Manchester United make James Garner transfer decision

Manchester United are keeping a close eye on James Garner's development at Nottingham Forest.

The 21-year-old is enjoying a fine season at the City Ground having played 33 Championship games so far this campaign. He has also netted four goals and made three assists as the Reds look to secure their place in the play-offs.

Forest are currently in the top six by two points and are in good form. They've won four league games in a row and ahead of this weekend's game against Birmingham City, Steve Cooper's men strengthened their grip on the play-off places with a win over Coventry City.

And Garner scored his fourth of the campaign against Coventry to double Forest's advantage on the night and is continuing to impress out on loan. His performances aren't going unnoticed at Old Trafford, either.

According to The Telegraph, United have ‘earmarked’ Garner as a player who could establish himself as part of the first-team picture next season. The report adds that United will wait on the new manager to make a decision on the midfielder's future.

United are said to be close to appointing Ajax manager Erik ten Hag as the permanent successor to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ralf Rangnick has overseen the club's second half of the season, but hasn't exactly pulled up any trees with United now some way away from challenging for Champions League qualification.

Garner is highly regarded by many at United, with Solskjaer previously tipping the midfielder to become the club’s ‘next Michael Carrick’. He is set to return to his parent club at the end of the season, while Forest will hope they are in the same division in the next campaign.
