Manchester United make Europa League squad change amid injury crisis

Manchester United have added teenage goalkeeper Dermot Mee to their Europa League squad to offset Tom Heaton's absence.

Heaton has been sidelined for four weeks with a foot injury that required a protective boot but is hopeful of returning later this month.

Mee, 20, played four times on loan at National League side Altrincham earlier this season before he was added to United's Europa League squad earlier this week.

The Birmingham-born 'keeper has trained sporadically with the United first team this season and has played for Northern Ireland Under-21s.

Jack Butland and academy goalie Radek Vitek were named on the bench for the 2-2 quarter-final first leg draw with Sevilla.

United could be without Heaton, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Scott McTominay, Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford away to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on Sunday.

Varane was forced off at half time against Sevilla and the crestfallen Martinez was carried off down the tunnel on a stretcher late on.

"No, it is not the area," Ten Hag said when asked if Martinez had sustained an Achilles injury. "But I can’t tell what it is. But it is not the area of Achilles.

"We have very good replacements with Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, so we have players who can replace them. But of course, it is a miss.

"I think he will not play on Sunday. It looks like that but I can’t say what is the diagnosis and I prefer to wait and then we are clear and we know exactly what it is.

"I have spoken with him, he is okay, he is calm. Of course and we compete in three competitions and then you need a squad. So if Licha Martinez, Rapha Varane are not available on Sunday then others have to do it.

"We have seen on Saturday Harry Maguire played a good game and he came in tonight and also played a good game.

"I have an idea what we can play on Sunday but first we have to see tomorrow and talk with medical, see who came out of the game and then we have a plan and then we will bring a good team on the pitch."
