Manchester United legends' stance on Sheikh Jassim takeover bid as 'jobs offered' to ex-players

Two Manchester United legends appear to be able to see the positives in Sheikh Jassim's takeover of the Old Trafford outfit amid reports the Qatari could offer jobs at the club to former players.

Reports in recent days have claimed that Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani is set to be named as current owner the Glazer Family's preferred candidate to purchase the club, although alternative reports last night said that Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS group is in the driving seat.

It follows reports by ESPN that some of United's biggest icons from the Sir Alex Ferguson era could be given the chance to take up senior roles within the club if the Qatari takeover is successful.

Former players Gary Neville and Paul Scholes have both publicly spoken about the bid previously - indicating they can see the positives in the Qatari's bid.

Speaking in April, Neville indicated there is "no perfect answer" when it comes to United's next owner, with Sir Jim Ratcliffe also still in the frame to purchase the club. But he also laid out the positives a takeover by Sheikh Jassim will bring.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said: "The Qataris would come in and build a new stadium straight away, they’ll wipe out all the shareholders, they will never take dividends or debt but obviously people have to live with the fact that they might be a state-owned connection, which people don’t like as well. So there’s no perfect answer here."

It followed the view shared by Scholes in March, where he insisted that the only requirement from the new owners is to get results on the field. He said: "I don’t care who is running the club as long as what is happening on the field is right.

"I am sure the new owners, whoever it may be, will want to get everything right. They’ll say the right things – of course they will because they want to buy the club – but we just hope it all comes off.

"I don’t think the team are that bothered by all that, I don’t think it has hurt them, but the feeling around the fans is they want it sorted."
