Manchester United lead condolences to Cristiano Ronaldo and family after death of baby son

Manchester United have sent a message of support and condolence to Cristiano Ronaldo and his family after the striker announced the terribly sad passing of his newborn son, one of twins.

The 37-year-old released a joint statement with partner Georgina Rodriguez on Monday evening sharing the devastating news, in which they also confirmed that their baby daughter had been welcomed into the world. It said: “It is with our deepest sadness we have to announce that our baby boy has passed away.

“It is the greatest pain that any parents can feel. Only the birth of our baby girl gives us the strength to live this moment with some hope and happiness.

“We would like to thank the doctors and nurses for all their expert care and support. We are all devastated at this loss and we kindly ask for privacy at this very difficult time.

"Our baby boy, you are our angel. We will always love you."

In a message on social media, Manchester United sent a message of consolation to the bereaved couple. It said: “Your pain is our pain, Cristiano.

“Sending love and strength to you and the family at this time.”

Teammate Marcus Rashford also echoed this with condolence of his own. He wrote: "Thoughts are with you and Georgina brother. I’m so sorry."

A number of other United squad players have shown their support on Instagram. Alex Telles, David De Gea and Diogo Dalot all sent love heart emojis to their friend.

Boyhood club Sporting Lisbon wrote: "A lot of strength Cristiano. The Sportinguista family is with you.”
