Manchester United fans protest against Glazers at Carrington training ground

Manchester United have increased security at Carrington with a number of United fans protesting around the training ground.

There were around two dozen protesters seen at Carrington on Friday afternoon in a fresh show of anger at the Glazers' ownership of the club. Some were carrying a 'Glazers Out' banner, while another read 'Disgrace not fit to wear the shirt 1958'. United responded by increasing security around the training ground and the usual entrance was also closed. Police were also spotted in attendance.

Ralf Rangnick's pre-match press conference ahead of United's match against Norwich is being held at Carrington, but the extra security presence was notable upon arrival for journalists. The usual entrance to the training complex was closed and visitors were redirected to the rear entrance that is usually reserved for first-team players when they arrive for training. Security personnel were also stationed outside buildings at the campus.

A United spokesperson said: “There was a small and peaceful protest outside the Carrington training ground today. We respect the opinions of fans and remain committed to strengthening our engagement with them.”

United players are not scheduled to arrive for training until around 3pm and it's not the first protest to occur at Carrington.

United fans came together in April last year to mobilise against the Glazers following the European Super League proposal.

Supporters travelled to Carrington to protest and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was confronted by fans. Solskjaer infamously defended Joel Glazer in an exchange outside the complex and sources who were there claimed he said Glazer 'loves' the club.

Protestors also shared words with Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Matic in that protest.
