Manchester United in late Sven Botman deal hijack and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are bracing to snatch Sven Botman from the reach of AC Milan, according to reports.

The defender is said to be in advanced talks with the Italian club, who will lift their first title in 11 years with a win on Sunday. However, United have swooped in with a late push to hijack Milan's move for the 22-year-old Lille star, Football Insider reports.

Botman, who was poised to move to Milan for £25m, came up in recent talks held by Erik ten Hag with close advisors about United’s summer transfer strategy, it says. The Dutchman is thought to be keen on the Netherlands centre-half.

The youngster has impressed in France since his 2020 switch from ten Hag’s Ajax. Botman failed to earn a senior appearance at the Dutch giants despite playing a regular role in the club’s under-21s.

Meanwhile, Gazzetta dello Sport report that Roma chiefs are unsure about Jose Mourinho’s interest in Nemanja Matic. The Serb is due to leave United at the end of the season.

Mourinho is keen on rekindling ties with his former player, as well as Diogo Dalot and Eric Bailly. However, Europa Conference League finalists Roma have their concerns.

Worries about the 33-year-old's age and fitness levels have been questioned while other board members are not confident that he would be a good fit for the team.
