Manchester United have an easy decision to make with Casemiro vs Nottingham Forest

Casemiro comes back in?

With Championship side Reading due at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, it is logical to put Casemiro straight back into the side against Forest, now mid-table after arriving at United towards the bottom of the table the day after Boxing Day.

Casemiro has been United's player of the season and was predictably missed at Arsenal. It would be illogical not to immediately restore him to the side.

Changes?

Christian Eriksen has looked leggy of late and Fred has been underused since his superb performance in the derby 11 days ago.

Raphael Varane is due a rest at some stage this week and Harry Maguire has not started since the Charlton tie two weeks ago. Victor Lindelof last lined up for United three weeks ago.

Alejandro Garnacho has started the last four games on the bench and has to come under consideration to start.

Is Antony reprieved?

Antony improved against Arsenal but when compared with Bukayo Saka - a left-footed right winger, it is not remotely favourable. Saka is quick, direct and a goal threat. Antony is rarely any of those things.

"I think he is not losing games," Ten Hag said when asked about Antony's form at Carrington on Tuesday. "When he is playing and the team is winning and that already gives a message of how well he is performing.

"He can do better, I see space for improvement and, for instance - and I think you notice - we want him to be more direct, more involved."

Will Weghorst offer a goal threat?

Burnley fans might have chortled at the sight of two of their old battering rams lining up on either side tonight. Forest have loaned in Chris Wood from Newcastle, sold by Burnley for £25million only 12 months ago, while Wout Weghorst - Wood's replacement at Turf Moor - is certain to continue at the tip of the arrow for United. Alas, Wood is cup-tied.

Weghorst has not so much fired blanks as not taken aim. He has collaborated impressively in United's build-up play and his near post run freed up Bruno Fernandes to score at Palace but a striker is judged on goals.

Who's in goal?

Tom Heaton made his overdue full debut for United in the previous round and has to be in with a shout of a second start this week, either against Forest or Reading.

Given David de Gea's regressive afternoon at the Emirates, a new voice in goal would possibly be advisable.
