Manchester United given 'boost' in Youri Tielemans pursuit and other rumours

Manchester United have reportedly been handed good news in the race for Youri Tielemans, a player they are rumoured to be keeping tabs on.

United are on the hunt for central midfielders this summer with Paul Pogba and Juan Mata set to exit when their contracts expire. Tielemans has been one of the outside names touted with a move to United with the likes of Ruben Neves, Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips taking centre stage.

But the Belgian could go for as little as £25m, according to CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs. He also says that West Ham and Liverpool are not in the race for last year’s FA Cup winner.

However, United still face Premier League competition for the playmaker with Arsenal also interested. Tielemans hasn’t quite had the impact this season that he had on Leicester last term, but has still managed to net seven times.

Elsewhere, it’s been clear for a while now that Rangers are less than impressed with United loanee Amad. The 19-year-old was brought to Old Trafford from Atalanta in January 2021 before securing a loan move to Scotland 12 months later.

The teenager has had a dismal spell at Ibrox and now, Football Insider reports that boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst wishes to offload him as soon as possible. Amad had signed on a six-month loan and it’s unclear if he will indeed make an early return to Manchester. He’s played just four league games with Rangers, although he scored on his debut against Ross County.

Finally, Corriere dello Sport (via The Sun) hints that former United and Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez could make a shock return to the Premier League under Antonio Conte at Tottenham.

The Argentine is set to visit Spurs’ training ground next week and has been without a club since leaving Boca Juniors in July. He also recently visited AC Milan, Inter Milan and Juventus.

He was managed by Conte during his stint at the Old Lady, which lasted between 2013 and 2015. The 38-year-old hasn’t officially retired but is likely to link up with the coaching staff at Spurs rather than join in a playing capacity, the source says. Tevez controversially played for both United and City during his time in the Premier League.
