Manchester United have been hit with a fine by UEFA following their Champions League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid last month.
United were knocked out of Europe by the Spanish champions after a 2-1 defeat on aggregate during the last-16 stage. Having drawn 1-1 at the Wanda Metropolitano, the Reds were then beaten 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Renan Lodi scoring the all-important winner.
The game was played in a fractious atmosphere, with the visitors’ pragmatic approach leaving United frustrated as they failed to make any inroads. Fans’ anger spilled over at the final whistle as Atletico boss Diego Simeone made his way off the pitch.
