Manchester United fans in stitches over Donny van de Beek and Jose Mourinho transfer report

A number of Manchester United supporters have laughed off suggestions that midfielder Donny van de Beek is pushing for a move to Jose Mourinho's Roma.

A spurious report by Corriere della Sera in Italy claims the Dutchman has 'offered himself' to the Serie A heavyweights and former United manager Mourinho. Van de Beek spent the second half of this season away from Old Trafford after joining Everton on loan in January.

His time on Merseyside failed to produce the results that he would have hoped for. He joined Everton with aspirations of getting his career back on track after finding opportunities hard to come by at United but made a paltry seven appearances for the Toffees because of injury issues.

But Erik ten Hag's appointment as United manager is likely to have raised Van de Beek's spirits, with the duo having enjoyed success together at Ajax. Van de Beek left Ajax to join United in October 2020 but the move has so far failed to live up to expectations.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag's appointment as manager is likely to significantly improve the 25-year-old's chances of making a name for himself in the Premier League. The latter knows how to get a tune out of him and United's supporters will be hoping to see the very best of him next season.

Following reports last weekend that Van de Beek has been informed that he will be part of Ten Hag's plans this summer, several Reds supporters found the funny side to reports claiming that the Dutchman is trying to force an exit by joining Roma.

Van de Beek has made just 50 appearances for United in almost two years since joining the club, scoring two goals and recording two assists. His last goal in United colours came in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's final game in charge in the 4-1 defeat to Watford last November.
