Bruno Fernandes posted a comment on Anthony Martial’s latest Instagram post that seemingly references a promise he made the Frenchman in pre-season.
Fernandes returned from suspension to guide the Reds to a 4-2 League Cup win over Aston Villa after missing the 3-1 loss to the Villains in the Premier League on Sunday. His deflected strike proved to be significant in the win, with his third goal of the season putting the hosts 3-2 up.
Martial was starting his first game since early October having suffered a back injury in the first half of the 2-1 win over Everton at the beginning of October. He has missed 16 matches this season due to three separate setbacks.

However during the six appearances he has made, he has scored four goals and provided two assists, firing home his latest strike in the Villa victory. His goal came just 19 seconds after the restart following Ollie Watkins’ opening goal for the visitors three minutes after the break.
Martial was teed up by Fernandes who notched his third assist of the campaign. After the match, Martial took to Instagram to write: “Good win yesterday night now focus on Sunday [versus Fulham].”
Fernandes responded with a comment of his own, replying: “If you know you know.” Many United fans in the comments deduced that the comment was a reference to a promise Fernandes made to Martial in pre-season.
During the flight to Bangkok for the first leg of United's pre-season tour, Fernandes was handed the United camera and documented the trip by speaking to several teammates including Martial. In one clip, he declared that the striker would “be back scoring goals” for United following his drab loan spell at Sevilla.
The forward replied: “Give me some assists please,” to which Fernandes then answered: “I will, for sure man, you know that we have that connection". Their link-up play against Villa was the first time they combined for a goal this season.
Both players are expected to feature against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday in what will be the final Premier League game before the break for the World Cup.
