Manchester United fan Conor McGregor interested in buying Liverpool FC

Manchester United fan Conor McGregor has declared that he is interested in buying Liverpool following reports that the club have been put up for sale by Fenway Sports Group (FSG).

It was revealed on Monday that Liverpool have been put up for sale by FSG, as the club's owners look to invite offers from interested parties. The American organisation, principally owned by John W. Henry, could now possibly oversee another takeover of a major Premier League side following the Todd Boehly-led purchase of Chelsea.

United supporters have been begging the Glazer family to relinquish control of their club, with the news of British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe 's potential interest most recently stirring up excitement among fans. Former captain Gary Neville has been very vocal in his criticism of the club's American owners, as pressure continues to mount for a sale to be made.

Ratcliffe's interest in buying United waned a few weeks ago, and Britain's wealthiest man has now distanced himself from a potential purchase of Liverpool.

A spokesperson for Ratcliffe's company Ineos told The Telegraph : "Our position has developed, and we are now focusing efforts in Nice and raising ambitions for the club to make them into a top-tier club in France to compete with PSG. This would represent much better value for our investment than buying one of the top-tier Premier League clubs."

UFC star McGregor - who has previously declared himself to be a United fan - has now thrown his hat in the ring as a potential Liverpool buyer, as he took to social media. When asked if he would buy Liverpool, he tweeted: "I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club! @LFC."

This caused some controversy online, as fans were quick to point out a prior tweet of his back in April 2021, where the 34-year-old appeared to show his interest regarding a takeover at Old Trafford.

He said: "Hey guys, I’m thinking about buying Manchester United! What do you think?"
