Manchester United: Erik ten Hag reveals fresh Mason Mount injury blow after conflicting claims

Manchester United have been dealt another injury blow as they prepare to face Porto in the Europa League.

Mason Mount was forced off during the 3-0 home loss to Tottenham but the following days moved to allay fears of another spell on the sidelines, posting on Instagram: "I'm all good, just a scratch. Thanks for all the messages."

That self-diagnosis appears to have been premature as Erik ten Hag confirmed on Wednesday that the midfielder will miss the trip to Portugal.

"He had a head injury and also he picked up a knock," Ten Hag confirmed. "They are the two reasons why he is not available for tomorrow."

Mount was during an injury-hit spell with United, missing 30 of 52 matches last term and already three games this season.

Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia remain sidelined, but the former hopes to make his first United appearance since February after the upcoming international duty.

"On the left-back, they are improving but I don’t expect them back before the international break," Ten Hag added. "But we hope Luke Shaw can return after the international break quickly.

"I don’t know if it’s the first game, we’re hoping for. I can’t in this moment tell this 100 per cent with security but from now on we have two-and-a-half weeks to work to the point but shortly definitely after he will be there.

"Tyrell Malacia makes very good progress on the pitch and now he has to make the step to full team training."
