Manchester United considering Alexander Isak in striker search and more transfer rumours

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak as Ralf Rangnick targets a new striker in the summer.

The United interim boss has admitted that the club are in need of a new frontman, particularly with the uncertainty surrounding Edinson Cavani as he enters the final few months of his contract.

"This is obvious," Rangnick said. "Edinson’s contract is running out in the summer and the club needs the best possible centre forward. This is an obvious one. I think everyone is aware of that."

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Rangnick has recommended the club re-attempt to sign Erling Haaland after he rejected United in favour of Borussia Dortmund in 2019 – and according to other reports, there is another name in the frame.

The Daily Mail have suggested United are considering Isak, who has scored eight goals in 27 games for Sociedad this season.

The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal during the January transfer window, although the Gunners are said to have been reluctant to part with the £75million needed to meet his release clause.

Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez and Bayer Leverkusen’s Patrik Schick are also said to be alternative targets.

Elsewhere, Cavani is reported to be determined to secure a move to Spain once his contract at United expires.

The 34-year-old looks likely to leave Old Trafford once his deal runs out at the end of the season, having been heavily linked with a move away during the January window.

A move back to South America was touted, while Barcelona were also linked, although Rangnick quickly shut down suggestions the striker could leave before the end of the campaign.

Cavani does seem to be heading for the exit door come the season’s conclusion though, and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano (via SportsMole) has suggested his priority is to secure a move to Spain.

Romano claims that River Plate, who were seen as one of the favourites to sign Cavani in January, are ‘not even an option’, with the Uruguay international eager to experience La Liga before the end of his career.
