Manchester United confirm team news and issue Edinson Cavani injury update ahead of Man City fixture

Manchester United will welcome Edinson Cavani back when they travel to face fierce rivals Man City in the Premier League this weekend.

The Uruguayan has missed United's last four matches with a groin problem that has hampered him throughout the season and has not featured since starting the 1-1 draw with Burnley on February 8.

Cavani returned to United training on Thursday and, speaking at his pre-match press conference, interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed the early team news for the match: "Yeah, he has been back in training since yesterday.

"Today was his second session. He looks good, so I think he could at least be part of the group for Sunday.

"There are two or three question marks behind some players we will have to wait and see what happens. Edinson as it stands now will be part of the group."

Rangnick did not namecheck Scott McTominay in his team news update, but the Scotland international also returned to training this week.

McTominay has missed United's last two matches through illness, but returned to training in the week and appears to be in contention for Sunday's clash at the Etihad Stadium.
