Manchester United confirm Jesse Lingard joins Paul Pogba in leaving club this summer as contract expires

Manchester United have confirmed Jesse Lingard will leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

Lingard joined the club’s academy more than 20 years ago and has been a United player ever since, though he has gone out on loan a number of times during his professional career.

Most recently he joined West Ham in January 2021 for the final months of the season and made a significant impact at the London Stadium, scoring nine goals in 16 Premier League appearances during his time at the club.

David Moyes’ side have once again been linked with the 29-year-old this summer on a free transfer, but it remains to be seen whether the club are willing to meet Lingard’s wage demands.

During his time at United, Lingard made 232 appearances and scored in FA Cup and League Cup final wins, while he also has a Europa League medal from the 2016/17 season.

Man United’s statement concluded: “We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Jesse for all of the memories he’s helped create during his two decades here and wish him the best of luck in his future career.”

Lingard’s departure was announced on the same day it was confirmed Paul Pogba would also be leaving the club on a free, the second time he has done so in his career. Once again Juventus appears to be the most likely destination.
