Manchester United chief 'turned down' Erik ten Hag’s request to sign Barcelona star and more transfer rumours

Manchester United Football Director John Murtough reportedly turned down Erik ten Hag’s request to sign Barcelona defender Sergino Dest during the summer transfer window.

According to The Athletic, Ten Hag was keen on recruiting Dest from the Catalan giants, but Murtough is said to have decided that right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be enough for the season and rejected the deal.

The American defender went on to sign for Serie A side AC Milan on loan for the remainder of the season, where he has made one appearance since arriving at the San Siro Stadium.

Dalot has impressed for the Reds so far this season and is keeping Wan-Bissaka out of the side. The Portuguese international has performed well in a much-improved defence, with Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Raphael Varane and Tyrell Malacia helping United to four wins in their last four Premier League matches.

Elsewhere, United transfer target Moises Caicedo is set to be offered a new contract by current club Brighton after impressing since his arrival from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle in 2021.

As reported by the Mirror, several Premier League sides - including the Reds - are interested in a move for Caicedo. However, the Seagulls are set to begin contract negotiations with the 20-year-old in an attempt to fend off interest from rival clubs.

The midfielder has made six appearances so far this campaign, scoring in Brighton's win over Leicester City earlier this month. The youngster has been handed a prominent role in the starting eleven following Yves Bissouma's transfer to Tottenham in the summer transfer window, and his solid performances have attracted the interest of a number of sides.
