Some Manchester United fans have told Erik ten Hag to give James Garner a chance in the team amid reports that the club are closing in on a new midfielder.
Garner spent last season on loan with Nottingham Forest, where he played a big part in helping the club to return to the Premier League for the first time in 23 years. The Reds may have been keen to re-sign the player this summer, but Premier League loan rules mean that he could only join on a permanent basis or if the loan deal includes an obligation to buy.
The rules state that clubs are only allowed one loan player from another Premier League side. That slot between Forest and United has been taken up by Dean Henderson.

Garner is now back with United, but was left on the bench for the opening day defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday. United are said to be keen in bringing in midfield reinforcements in the window and have been most recently linked with Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot.
After not being given minutes at Old Trafford, both Man United fans and Forest fans were in agreement over ten Hag's decision. Here's what just some had to say.
Tina’s United (Man United fan) : Next week, I'd just start Garner and Donny instead of McTominay and Fred.
#MUFC
FPL Chandler (Forest fan): With how shockingly awful McTominay is I really am baffled as to why Garner isn’t getting a look in. Come home Jimmy where you are loved #mufc #nffc
Raghunandan Varma (Man United fan) : Rather than buying Rabiot who is not EPL proven anyway, play Garner.
Garner and Eriksen in deep roles is 1000% upgrade on mcFred.
Use that money to get an attacker instead coz CR7 will leave after the horror show from club in the summer window.
#Mufc #GlazersOut
Wayne (Forest fan): James Garner wasted at man utd #nffc
Rahul Karmakar (Man United fan): If James Garner was playing for some other club today, #MUFC would have run in with a 50M bid for him.
But who cares. Let's give McTominay another shot.
Joe Lyons (Man United fan) : Would be disappointed to see James Garner leave #MUFC on loan considering the state of the midfield right now. Think it's time for him to be eased into the rotation and then later work his way to a starting position. After McFred's ordeal yesterday, don't think this can be argued
Adam (Forest fan): Come on man garner deserves to be playing regular football in the prem lad could be class for us again ! #NFFC
Alex Riches (Man United fan) : Garner and Galbraith are two I’ve always wanted to see make it at the highest level with #mufc. Give James a starting spot if Frenkie doesn’t sign and get Galbraith a good loan in the Championship.
