Manchester United Addresses Awful One-Star Rating for In-Stadium Food Hygiene

Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 will not go down as a banner day in Manchester United’s long, illustrious history.

First, fans of English soccer's flagship team had to watch as their hated rival—Manchester City—pounded Fluminense 4–0 to win the Club World Cup in Saudi Arabia.

Then, United was issued a one-star rating by the British government's Food Standards Agency for culinary hygiene at Old Trafford.

“A small amount of undercooked meat was inadvertently served during a non-matchday event,” Manchester United conceded in a statement. “This was an isolated issue and the immediate failures were quickly addressed.”

Manchester United responded to being issued a poor one-star rating for food at Old Trafford by the U.K.’s Food Standards Agency.

Per The Athletic, several guests at an Old Trafford corporate event reported feeling unwell after being served “raw chicken.”

“MUFC has taken this incident very seriously and wants to reassure our valued fans and customers that we maintain the highest culinary standards,” the team said.

Things aren’t much better for Manchester United on the pitch, as the Red Devils currently sit in seventh place with 28 points and a 9-7-1 record 17 matches into the Premier League season.
