Hannibal Mejbri says he will “always cherish” his loan spell at Birmingham City as he braces to return to Manchester United, hinting that a return to the Championship club may be unlikely.
The Tunisia international was a fan-favourite at St Andrew’s, being loved for his passionate play and relationship with supporters. He played 41 times for the Blues, providing a goal and six assists as he helped steer them away from relegation danger.
He started 23 matches overall and became a staple of John Eustace’s matchday squad. Hannibal reiterated his enjoyment of playing for Birmingham several times throughout the season, and has sent one final message to the club ahead of his return to Carrington.

Writing on Instagram on Wednesday, the 20-year-old said: "A huge thanks to the amazing staff for their support and guidance, and to the passionate fans for making my time at St Andrew's unforgettable. I've made some fantastic memories and friends here in Birmingham, and I am proud to have worn the Blues jersey."
Seemingly indicating that a return to Birmingham may not be on the cards, he added: "As I move on to the next chapter of my career, I'll always cherish my time here and the relationships I've built.
"I wish the club, my team-mates, and all the fans the very best for the future," before concluding: "Let's keep pushing forward and making Birmingham FC proud!”
Hannibal had previously been coy about his future, leaving the door open for a return. He said: "First, the Championship is very hard, so I'm going to have a good holiday.
"After that I will think about next season and get ready for my pre-season with Man United. We will see [about a Birmingham return] at the end of the pre-season. Why not? You never know."
Hannibal has made three senior appearances for United, earning his first start in the loss to Crystal Palace on the final day of last season.
