A young Dutch Herder who was found roaming the streets just days before Christmas is hoping to find a family to spend the summer, and the rest of her life with. The three-year-old dog, aptly named Dutch after her breed, was found as a stray on December 23 last year.
Dutch has since spent 143 days waiting for the perfect family to take her on long adventures where she can experience new and exciting places. She’s an active dog thanks to her working genes, as Dutch Shepherds were originally bred as herding dogs. As a result, the young pooch is looking for a home where she can really get involved in exploring.
Currently residing at Manchester Dogs Trust, a spokesperson for the charity said: “Dutch loves exploring and happily hops straight in the back of the car ready for her next adventure. She also loves playing with her soft and squeaky toys and has been enjoying sunbathing with a tennis ball!”

Food is another favourite for fun-loving Dutch, and she particularly loves squeezy cheese, which could be a good tool for her ongoing training. Dogs Trust added: “Dutch is such an engaging girl to be around. She enjoys having cuddles and fusses from people she knows and will lean into you for more.”
Dutch will need a private secure garden with six foot high fences where she can run around, play and relax. Ideally, she’d like a non-open plan home or somewhere quiet that she can take herself away to for when people come to the front door.
“Dutch can be unsure of dogs when out and about and can bark when unsure,” Dogs Trust said. “We have been making progress with her focus to improve her confidence around dogs, but she will need access to walks where minimal dogs will run over to her or owners willing to travel her to enjoy quieter areas for walks.
“Due to her age and breed, her new family will need to be very active and want to participate in fun training with her. Shepherd knowledge is essential but experience would be preferable.
“Dutch would benefit the most from an adult only home and she would love to be the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all of the love, attention and affection from her forever family!”
