Major upgrade works to the Manchester International Depot, transforming it into a modern train servicing and stabling facility, have been completed.
Hull-headquartered Spencer Group M&E was selected by Northern as its delivery partner for the £1.8 million building and facilities upgrade, bringing the maintenance depot back to life.
It had been built in the early Nineties as part of a plan to operate international Eurostar train services from Manchester via the Channel Tunnel. However, the plan never came to fruition and the depot has remained underused. Train firms have commissioned new fleets there, but it has never been an active, working depot.
