A city centre Pan Asian restaurant is giving away free food in Manchester tomorrow (August 17), to celebrate their 25th birthday. Tampopo will be handing out free gyozas at their Albert Square venue as their outside space reopens.
From midday tomorrow, foodies will be able to grab free gyozas as Albert Square partially reopens following months of ongoing work as part of the Our Town Hall project.
The dumpling small plate is the restaurant's most popular order, with the team making 4,000 a week, meaning that over the last 25 years, Tampopo have made and served around 10 million gyoza to Manchester.

First opening their doors in 1997, Tampopo Albert Square was the first dining establishment of its kind back in the 90s and which is still one of Manchester’s most popular Pan Asian today. Twenty five years on, they have four Greater Manchester outlets and East Street by Tampopo in Fitzrovia, London.
Its other Manchester sites include The Corn Exchange in Manchester city centre, and at The Trafford Centre, where they also have a takeaway kiosk.
Made from scratch on site, the Japanese dumplings are hand filled and folded with a variety of fillings like minced pork, spring onion and bamboo shoot or mushroom, spring onion and carrot and served with a soy and chilli dipping sauce, and fans can pick up their own free of charge tomorrow.
David Fox, founder of Tampopo, said: “Celebrating our 25th year in Manchester and beyond is a great honour. I’m thrilled to be sharing these celebrations through our free giveaways. Our menu has been carefully developed over the last 25 years with trips to Japan, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur and we love sharing our dishes with our guests and supporters”
‘Tampopo’ is a Japanese girl’s name meaning ‘dandelion’ and is also the title of a Japanese film, which chronicles a woman’s search for the perfect bowl of noodles.
As well as the gyoza giveaway, Tampopo are offering their guests 25 per cent off their main dishes throughout August to celebrate their 25th birthday. Diners will just need to quote ‘summer offer’ to their server when dining to redeem the discount.
