This Sunday (April 16) will see thousands of runners take part in the Manchester Marathon while drinking in the city's greatest landmarks.
The Adidas event is the second-largest marathon event in the UK and the fourth largest in Europe overall. It is known for its 'fast, flat and friendly' 26.2-mile route through Greater Manchester, which is taken on by elite athletes and first-time marathon runners alike.
Some 28,000 runners and 42,000 spectators are expected to take part in the event this weekend. The marathon has a rich history dating back as far as 1908 where it has now grown to become a much-loved running event for athletes all across the UK.

Here's a breakdown of the Manchester Marathon 2023 route which will be especially useful for anyone expecting to take part in the event or simply want to find the best spots across the city to catch the runners.
Locals have been warned that roads will be closed from 3am on Sunday, with transport bosses urging people to plan ahead. Roads will reopen from 2pm as the marathon finishes up.
This year's route starts at White City Circle on the A56 in Trafford. From here, runners will then turn off and make their way past Old Trafford as they head up towards Upper Chorlton Road. They will then make their way towards the city centre via Chorlton Road passing Hulme.
Once runners reach the city centre, they will loop back towards Stretford on Bridgewater Way, leading onto Chester Road and then Cross Street. After going past Sale, runners will head towards Manchester Road before turning off towards Timperley via Park Road.
Once they’ve hit the Altrincham at around the 16-mile mark they will start to make their way to the finish line through Brooklands and Marsland Road. At Chorlton-Cum Hardy on Edge Lane, they will be near the finish line on Talbot Road through Seymour Grove, having completed the full 26.2-mile course.
