Manchester Jet2 flight forced to land 1,100 miles away in different country after woman starts 'slapping passengers'

A flight from Manchester to Turkey was forced to land 1,100 miles away from its destination after a woman onboard became 'disruptive' and reportedly slapped other passengers.

The Jet2 flight to Antalya left Manchester at around 9.15am on Monday and was due to arrive in Turkey around four-and-a-half hours later.

But the plane was diverted to, and landed in, Vienna at around 11.40am, reports the Manchester Evening News (MEN).

One passenger onboard the flight has since spoken out, claiming a woman became disruptive 'around an hour and 20 minutes' into the journey. The passenger, who did not want to be named, said "there was lots of noise."

"Then she came to the front of the plane," they continued. "She was really angry towards Jet2 staff and would not calm down." The passenger added that the woman was "shouting in people's faces" as she became "louder and more aggressive."

According to the passenger, people had reported the same woman "kicking off" before she even got on the plane, with others claiming she had become irate over "babies crying on the flight."

"A customer said something and she slapped him in the face," the holidaymaker told the MEN. "Then a man got up to try and calm the situation before taking her to the back of the plane."

The passenger claims staff then made the decision to divert the flight to Vienna, where the woman is alleged to have slapped another passenger as she got off the plane.

They said Jet2 staff "handled the whole situation very well" and that "nobody could help the out-of-control woman once she slapped the passenger."

A text sent by Jet2 to passengers onboard the flight shortly before 12pm said: "Hello, we are sorry that due to the disruptive behaviour of a fellow passenger, your flight has been diverted to Vienna. We are working on a situation to get you on your way as soon as possible."

The flight arrived at its original destination, Antalya, just after 3pm - one hour and 15 minutes later than scheduled. A spokesperson for Jet2 confirmed that flight LS895 diverted to Vienna "so that a disruptive passenger could be offloaded."

"As a family friendly airline, we take a zero tolerance approach to disruptive behaviour," they said.
