Manchester gay nightclub says it 'will not tolerate' abuse after staff member posted racist meme online

A gay nightclub in Manchester has said it 'will not tolerate' abuse after a member of its staff posted a racist meme online.

The staff member has since left the business following an investigation, the venue confirmed.

Popular club Cruz 101, based in the heart of Manchester's gay village, took to social media to say it does 'not condone any form of racism'.

It comes after the member of staff reportedly shared a meme to Instagram.

The post was deleted shortly after, but screenshots were later shared on social media.

In a statement on Tuesday (February 1) Cruz 101 said: "We are aware of the situation that is currently circulating on social media.

"Cruz 101 does not condone any form of racism. We are looking into this immediately and will provide a further update as soon as possible."

People were quick to share their views, with one user writing: "There is no room for racism or any other form of hate in an LGBTQIA+, inclusive space.

"A member of staff has been suspended to assist with the investigation and no further comment will be made during this process.

"Whilst we appreciate everyone’s frustration there is a process we must follow."

In an update on Friday, the club said: "Earlier this week a member of our staff made a serious error of judgement and shared a racist post on Instagram.

"Following an investigation, that member of staff no longer works for our company.

"Whilst this former employee made this post in their own time & on their own personal page, it has raised a very important conversation around how people of colour feel in all LGBTQ+ spaces.

"We commit to continue our work as a diverse & inclusive club at the heart of the LGBTQ+ community in Manchester, and whilst we're discussing many ideas currently that we hope to let you all know about soon, we have some things we can implement immediately.

"Our zero-tolerance policy to any abuse will be strengthened. Our managers will be available all night, at any time, to report incidents of abuse to.

"Be that racism, transphobia, homophobia or anything else. They will take immediate action to resolve this. As a customer simply ask to see the manager at reception.

"All our staff will receive training and have a clear process to follow should they see or hear any form of abuse.

"With these commitments we will solidify a culture which encourages the calling out of hate. We will not tolerate it."
