Manchester City XI vs Bristol City: Starting lineup, confirmed team news and injury latest for FA Cup today

Manchester City have named a strong side to face Bristol City tonight, though Erling Haaland is on the bench.

Centre-back pair John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are back in training though neither make the squad, but Kevin De Bruyne is back in the starting XI after illness ruled him out of the weekend win at Bournemouth.

Kalvin Phillips is afforded a rare start, as City look to reach the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Phillips has made just one start so far this season since joining from Leeds for £45million last summer, with form and fitness hampering his start to life at City. Guardiola previously criticised him for being overweight but is confident the player will come good.

Guardiola said: “Kalvin is adapting and adjusting a little bit. Some players need a bit more time.

“I have the feeling he needs a little bit more time to learn more about our rhythm, but it was so important for him to play the minutes he played at Bournemouth for the rhythm.

“Of course we need him until the end of the season because there are many games, but Rodri is so important at the moment. That is the reason why (he has not played much).”

He added of the game: “It's a final. The FA Cup is an important competition, really important. It's a serious team that is going to play tomorrow.”

Julian Alvarez leads the line with Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez out wide. Haaland, Jack Grealish and Rodri are among those waiting in reserve if required.

Starting XI: Ortega, Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Ake, Phillips, De Bruyne, Bernardo, Mahrez, Foden, Alvarez

Subs: Ederson, Walker, Gundogan, Haaland, Grealish, Rodri, Gomez, Perrone, Palmer
