Epilogue. Jonathan Wilson was at St James’ Park to watch Newcastle continue their good form in the Champions League …
… while Manchester City’s stylish victory was witnessed by Jamie Jackson. Thanks for reading this Clockwatch.
Here’s what today’s action has done to the old Swiss model. Internazionale join Bayern Munich and Arsenal as the only teams with a 100 percent record at the halfway stage. Inter conceded a goal, though, so Arsenal are the only men left standing with a big fat zero in their against column. Manchester City and Newcastle are hot on their heels, with Liverpool and Spurs, winners both last night, tucked in just behind. Chelsea are the only English club to come away from this week feeling disappointed, and have some work to do as a result of their unexpectedly dropping points in Baku, but they’ll host Barcelona next time round, and on tonight’s evidence against Brugge, anything could happen at the Bridge. Meanwhile the entire table is propped up by two genuine giants of European football, Benfica and Ajax, who don’t have a point between them.
