Manchester City crowned Premier League champions for the third consecutive season

Manchester City have been crowned Premier League champions for the third consecutive season.

Pep Guardiola’s side are not in action until they host Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday but Arsenal’s loss to Nottingham Forest on Saturday evening has handed them the title.

City twice beat the Gunners while chasing down what looked a huge lead after the World Cup and are on course for a historic treble.

Next month, Guardiola’s side will contest the first Manchester derby in FA Cup final history at Wembley before traveling to Istanbul a week later to take on Inter Milan in the Champions League final.

The Citizens have become only the fourth team in English football history to win three League titles on the bounce.

Arsenal and Huddersfield achieved it in the 1930s before Liverpool in the 1980s and Manchester United twice in the Premier League era.

They will now attempt to become the first team in the history of English football to win it four times in a row.
