With the rising cost of living and soaring inflation, many Brits are trying to find new ways to stretch wages and reduce food waste. This weekend, shoppers can visit Manchester Arndale’s Too Good To Go pop-up, which aims to spread awareness about food waste and promote ways to reduce it.
This Friday and Saturday (September 16 and 17), the team from Too Good To Go will be at the Arndale, where shoppers will be able to speak to food waste experts for tips on reducing food waste in their homes and businesses.
The free-to-download app has been reviewed extensively on Manchester Evening News, with dozens of city centre stores partnered with the app. In the UK, Too Good To Go has teamed up with over 22,000 food businesses including the likes of Greggs, Pret, Starbucks and Costa, alongside thousands more local independent favourites.

It also has around 10 million registered users, with a fast-growing social following who have helped save more than 14 million Magic Bags of food from going to waste in the country to date.
Instead of throwing food away that is left unsold at the end of the day, restaurants, coffee shops, pubs and retailers can pack the produce into Magic Bags for Too Good To Go users to buy for roughly a third of its original retail price, collect at an allotted time, and take it home to enjoy. You won’t know exactly what’s in your order until you pick it up - it’s all part of the surprise.
The pop up event will highlight statistics around food waste, including the fact that, globally, more than one third of all food produced is wasted.. In the UK alone, 20 million slices of bread go straight into the bin each day, which is almost 3,000 times the height of the Arndale Tower.
Brits also throw away 3.1 million glasses of milk every single day, which means that every nine days, the country wastes enough to fill the Manchester Ship Canal.
Whether it’s how to refresh stale bread, ways to keep individual fruits and vegetables fresh, or making your cheese last longer, the team will be on hand to offer advice on how to make simple changes that will have a big impact.
There are 18 food and drink stores in Manchester Arndale that are part of the Too Good To Go scheme, helping Manchester Arndale and its visitors save more than four tonnes of food so far.
Shoppers can find Too Good To Go in Exchange Court on the lower mall next to 10ft tall food structures - you won’t be able to miss them - between 11am and 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
As part of the event, the stores partnered with the app in the Arndale will be offering a free Too Good To Go tote bag with every Magic Bag purchase while stocks last.
