Manchester Airport slams 'reckless and irresponsible' YouTuber who filmed himself riding on top of lift

Police are investigating after a man filmed himself riding on top of a lift at Manchester Airport.

A video posted on YouTube account @LiftSurferRYEGI appears to show the person standing on top of the elevator as it goes up and down the lift shaft. Announcements can be heard on the video as the doors open to let people inside.

The mechanisms of the lift can be seen moving as the person pans the shot to their feet. During the video, a sign which clearly states that people are forbidden from that part of the lift can be seen. Several yellow and black warning stickers are also visible.

Later on in the clip, the doors of the lift open and a number of people can be seen stepping out of the lift whilst the YouTuber looks down. It's not shown in the video how they get on top of the lift shaft, or how they get down.

A disclaimer on the person's YouTube page states: "WARNING: Do NOT copy any activities you see in my videos. The dangers of lift surfing involve crushing, electrocution, entrapment, serious injury and death.

"There are many other significant dangers, those are just a few examples. Watching online videos will never show you the full extent of the dangers involved."

Other videos on their account include lift surfing in South Tower Deansgate, which they claim is the tallest building in Manchester at 200 metres tall, as well as Nine Acre Court in Salford, as well as sky rise buildings in London.

Manchester Airport slammed the video as 'reckless and irresponsible', as a spokesman confirmed that the incident has been reported to police. “We are aware of a video appearing to show someone riding on top of a lift in one of our car parks," the spokesman said.

"We do not condone such reckless and irresponsible behaviour and have referred this matter to the police, who are investigating.”
