Manchester Airport has issued an urgent message to British holidaymakers preparing to travel over the summer.
To ensure that journeys run as smoothly as possible, the airport is asking travellers to "prepare for your airport journey in advance". This includes arriving at the appropriate time as specified by your chosen airline, selling all liquids and gels in a clear plastic bag and placing all electricals flat in the tray when going through security checks.
It comes after holidaymakers experienced extreme delays when travelling earlier this month. Manchester Airport saw queues stretch as far back to the car park. At the time, one passenger described the queues as an 'utter shambles' and the 'worst ever' they've seen.

Posting on Facebook on Friday afternoon, the airport said: "Travelling from Manchester Airport this summer? Prepare for your airport journey in advance!
"This includes allowing enough time and preparing your hand luggage for security screening. Passengers should not arrive more than three hours before their flight.
"Those who arrive earlier may be asked to wait away from the check-in area until the recommended time for passing through security. This is to reduce waiting times in both security and the departure lounge."
While the airport advises passengers to arrive three hours early for their flight, if you are parking off-site you might want to allow even more extra time. Other airport time-saving tips include:
- Check-in online
- Buy a fast-track security ticket (if available)
- Choose a late-night flight (most take off in the morning, meaning airports tend to be busy at that time)
- Weigh your cases at home, to avoid having to sort overweight bags at the airport
- Familiarise yourself with the airport layout before you go
- Consider Meet and Greet parking, so you don’t have to spend time parking.
