Manchester Airport faced partial disruption on Wednesday afternoon after police were called to Terminal 2 following a welfare concern involving a man spotted on the wrong side of fencing on the upper storey of the building.
According to the Manchester Evening News, officers were first alerted at 8am. As the situation continued into the afternoon both the upper and lower level forecourts of Terminal 2 were closed. Those forecourts serve departures and arrivals passengers.
What the airport told passengers
The airport issued a statement directing passengers dropping off travellers at Terminal 2 to use the free drop-off area at the JetParks 1 car park instead. Buses were laid on to carry all passengers from that site into the terminal. Traffic marshals were stationed on site to guide drivers. Heavy traffic was reported in and around the airport during the closure.
Terminal 3 was not affected and flights continued to operate on schedule throughout the incident with no reported disruption to departures or arrivals.
In its statement the airport said: "Due to a police incident the upper and lower level forecourts of Terminal 2 are currently closed. Those dropping off passengers at Terminal 2 are advised to use the free drop-off area in the Jet Parks 1 car park until further notice and to follow the instructions of traffic marshals on site. Terminal 3 is unaffected. We will provide a further update in due course."
Flights not disrupted
Despite the closure of the forecourts and the police presence at Terminal 2 the airport confirmed the incident was not causing any disruption to scheduled flights. No further details about the welfare incident were released at the time of reporting.
